Heroes and Memories
It's really rough seeing everything that is going on right now. I understand now the problems with idolizing things of all sorts, but that is what I used to do with Japan. It was always my number one spot in the whole world that I wanted to travel to, I have always had this love for this country that I hadn't even been to yet. So many of my memories of my entire life have involved Japan in one way or another, through all periods of my life so far.
Fast-forward to the last few days: Every time I read news of the disasters in Japan I get really upset, of course, out of compassion for the horrible things that are happening to all of those people and the country.
But this special spot always gets hit in my heart, and it always brings up these somewhat faded memories of me as a child, inside japanese stores in Brazil, which I remember in great detail as if it was earlier today, where I'd gawk at all the toys on the shelves and talk to the elderly shop owners, hoping my mom and dad would buy me something.
Every news of these disasters I see, all that comes to my mind is me holding this action figure from one of my favorite shows, in this little toy shop that my parents used to take me to after school sometimes, when I was around eight years old. It's almost as if, I was transported back to that age, and looking into Kamen Rider or Jaspion's action figure face I somehow let them know of the catastrophes that were to eventually occur.
These heroes never fought against these types of enemies in their worlds.
In all of the DragonBall Z movies I grew up watching, most of the time what always ended up happening was that unable to defeat a greater evil, all of the heroes would then lift their hands together, and transfer all their powers to the main hero, Goku, who would then finally have the strength in him through the support of his friends to deliver the final blow and overcome the evil forces trying to destroy the earth and all of life.
This time I lift my hands and pray for the country and people responsible for so many wonderful memories of my life.

Open road
So I decided to start tackling on Vimeo projects to get some practices on concepts that I am highly unlikely to do of my own accord. It was a very nice day out, sunny and windy, perfect to ride the motorcycle to the park and shoot some photos. Bike stopped working on the way home however, which made it for a very tiring end of the day.
Pushing this bike home feels like trying to tow a panzer tank.
Anyways. This was the essence of today:

Starting strong
2010 was a great year I think. I had a lot of good times, saw great transformations take place with things important to me, and with myself. Had supernatural experiences. This is only day six of this year, and I can already tell it's going to be a great one, even better than 2010. God has been giving me many experiences already to show me that he is listening, as he is always. Things are lining up so awesomely, I am so excited for what is going to take place this year.
As a result of this feeling and foresight I've experienced so far, I also have made some decisions. I will not deny myself of anything I want to do. I am flying to New York for the Blip Festival 2011 in the summer, I have always wanted to experience that. I am going to Brazil to see family and friends, go to the doctors and the dentist and get things done and checked off the list. I am going to be the most creative I have been in a long time, be with music, photography, or whatever else I may do. I'm gonna travel around more often to see my friends in far away places. I am also going to be more active, which means more bike rides on the singletracks of Florida, working out more regularly and getting in shape. It's simply going to be a year of conquests and achievements, and I'm ready for it.

Scott Pilgrim VS The World

I saw this movie last night, and holy crap, was it amazing. It's the movie that I've been wanting to watch since I was 10 years old. The entire movie has to do with playing music, videogames, and comic books. I don't know that any other movie will ever be able to combine all my dorkiest interests into one 2 hour conglomerate of videogame references and sound effects like Scott Pilgrim VS The World has done.

The Out_Circuit - Pierce The Empire With A Sound
The bands sound intrigued me so much, that I have always searched for their lyrics online, but to no avail as it seems that they have never been listed anywhere. I have searched all the dark corners of the internet for it. So I figured, it was time to buy the physical record(along with his other record and side projects), and not only do I get to own the physical copy, I'd have the insert to read and with that, the lyrics! So I ordered it.
With the record in hand, I have taken upon myself to post the lyrics of what I feel are the most important songs to me of this masterpiece of an album, specially because I feel the message of this record should not be left to obscurity to those that bought it digitally from iTunes, or other sources. It should shine through darkness and reach others out there, as it spoke to me.
The Out_Circuit - Pierce The Empire With A Sound lyrics:
Come Out Shooting - Background Keys/Shaker: Teppei Teranishi Keyboards/Bass/Vocals: Nathan Burke
Break my waves upon thee / My fists, my lungs, my fallen head / Collapsing before futures / Carved out for the dead / Lift up the burden you carry / Lift up your heart / And if it breaks / Know that it builds you / And it breaks you / By design
I'm all done running, time to take a stand / The person that I was is undone / See what's been given / And make it stick / The empty that once was is gone
Destroy your idols, son, You bow to shadows, Embrace the narrow way;
And if you wait until, Your heart is better, You will never come at all.
Sing into the wire "Your revolution does not exist" / A lie cannot sustain itself forever / Like light that overcomes shadow / Like light that saves / And it cuts through / Then let it pierce you and conform you if you dare
I'm all done running, time to take a stand / The person that I was is undone / See what's been given / And make it stick / The empty that once was is gone
Take up your armor, son, And come out shooting, Embrace the narrow way;
And if you tarry 'til, Your heart is better, You will never come at all.
Across The Light - Lyrics/Vocals:Rachel Burke, Nathan Burke Keyboards/Guitars: Nathan Burke
Across the land / Across the light / I wonder how the distant forms I see / Take flight / In porcelain / And jaded green / Our dated scents / And all the spaces in between / Should I attempt / To mark the air / With sound / And further wonder where on Earth it lands? / To long / To breath / To wonder how / To draw between the lines / And praise the Lord / On high.
The Contender - Lyrics/Vocals: Dustin Kensrue/Burke Bass/Guitars/Keyboards: Nathan Burke
I'm tired Lord, and a voice in my head says "fall on your sword, you will find rest" Friends fallen still, and friends still to fall. Who knows your will? I least of all. Nothings for naught. I still contend. Glory to God, world without end.

New Wine - Guitars/Vocals: Nathan Burke
This night we open a door / That cannot be closed again / I sink in the room / The words I long for elude me / The tone, the hearth, the candle hints in the dark vermillion / "Here's to dark hours yet to come, and to signs of the end of the age!"
Let me drink, Of new wine, Let me think...
The sound resounds around the room / And causes my heart to still / I come to recognize / The life I long for eludes me / The bread, the life, the newness that my heart has been longing for / I raise the cup and realize / That yours is the blood on the door
Let me be, Of new wine, Let me see... (Show me mercy so my heart rejoices...)
Scarlet
Child, did I ever tell you the story / How I emerged from a great darkness? / From death to life? / In the clearing I held you / And thought "May you one day be as safe in another man's arms".

mechanical panaceas
I wish Florida was a bit more visually stimulating. I need to go back to Brazil with my camera.

Insane tilt-shift photo...
I've seen some tilt-shift photos that makes our world look like toys really bad, but never anything of this magnitude. Great shot.

The Wheel of Fate is Turning!

This is a great year for fighting fans so far. We got Street Fighter IV, re-releases of Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves and King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match, both with online play, King of Fighters XII coming out soon and looking extremely good, and this little game called BlazBlue:Calamity Trigger.
Let's go straight to the point here: if you are a fighting game fan, chances are you heard of the cult favorite Guilty Gear series. And if you are a fan of said game, you need to go pick up BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. Right now.
BlazBlue is the new Aksys fighting game for Xbox360 and PS3 developed on the Arc Systems plataform. From the same design team from the Guilty Gear series, this brawler is the spiritual sequel to the last Guilty Gear game, an evolution of the series that takes the frenetic fighting action of GG to the next level.
You can expect everything you know and love from GG here. Hand drawn high resolution character sprites, beautiful fluid animation, creative character designs, crazy voice overs, engrish sentences("Let's enjoy a great showtime!"), and a great soundtrack, matching the pace and mood of the game's unique universe.
Not only all the factors are there, but the game is really damn fun. Having a simplified four button layout reminiscent of the Samurai Shodown series(weak, medium, strong, and a special button) it makes it easier for newcomers to have fun. That does not indicate, however, that the game lacks depth. On the contrary, the game still has the deep technical aspects any respected fighter of this caliber should have.
The art design in this game is incredible. Beautiful 3D backgrounds. Creative characters, all with their respective insignias that show a lot of work and attention to detail. Crazy concepts like the Shy-Guy gooey Arakune and his insects, bad ass hero Hakumen, Iron Tager and his magnetic powers and so on. Each character has a playing mechanic specific to themsleves. For example, the sexy doctor Litchi has her staff that she can throw around the stage, leave it at places, jump on top of it and control it like a marionette, while the vampire girl Rachel controls the wind to her advantage to strategically place opponents in range of her traps. Ninja hero wannabe Bang uses railroad nails to fight, and he places devices around the screen that propels like a dash effect. Little boy Carl controls a puppet that fights for him with its own life bar, while the crazy psychopath Jin uses ice element attacks to freeze the enemy. As you can see, every character plays in different mechanics and it adds so much diversity to the game.
The music also feels like an evolution from the GG franchise. Don't get me wrong, I loved the GG soundtrack, but this feels more well thought-out, more in tune with it's respective character's personalities and stages. Like in GG, there are the special songs depending on the characters fighting, nemesis, or story advancement.
The game has a lot to offer as far as play modes go: arcade mode, story attack mode(more like get-my-ass-kicked mode), story mode, network mode, replay mode(which you can download from other players on the leaderboards and watch), training mode, and galleries of unlockables. Story mode alone has a lot of replay value all in itself. Every charachter has a story to play through, told through a series of voice acting and scenes of the characters between their fights. Also, each character's story has multiple branched paths, and the story unfolds based on your choices and fighting methods at key events.
Network mode is where you fight people online. The netcode on this game is very competent, as I have yet to experience any signs of lag during any of my matches. The game lags a little bit before the fight starts while it synchronizes the players data, but by the time the fight starts everything is caught up and smooth.
With all these modes, the branching stories, and characters that all play very differently from one another, this is a lot of bang for your buck. Specially if you pick up the inital print of special editions that are the same price as the regular game, and have a DVD with strategies and combos for every character, as well as a two CDs of the game's well composed soundtrack. Basically, if you are a fan of fighting games, you need to pick up BlazBlue. Specially if you are a fan of Guilty Gear. This is the next step up, and what a beautiful, intense, crazy step this is.

Disappointment is an understatement
I went to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with my brother yesterday. I didn't have high hopes by any means, as you learn when you are a seasoned fan of comic books and videogames but...But it was still an entertaining movie. Flawed, but entertaining. I'm not as elitist as most fans when it comes to comic book/cartoons/videogame movies, its a given that they will change stuff around, and probably screw up our fond childhood memories. You basically come to terms that you will probably be disappointed and head out to the theater. But TF2 brings disappointment from comic books/cartoon movies to new heights.

King of Fighters XII
KOFXII will be out soon and I am totally stoked for that. A completely new engine Street Fighter IV and King of Fighters XII in the same year?
So awesome. Gotta get back in shape with my girl Leona.
