Heroes and Memories

Japan has always played a big part in my childhood and teen life. So many cartoons and anime, tv shows, video games, manga, toys, so many things that have claimed big parts of my memory bank of my childhood and teen days came from Japan. I grew up in the city with the largest Japanese population colony in the world. The culture of Japan was very embedded into my life growing up.

It's really rough seeing everything that is going on right now. I understand now the problems with idolizing things of all sorts, but that is what I used to do with Japan. It was always my number one spot in the whole world that I wanted to travel to, I have always had this love for this country that I hadn't even been to yet. So many of my memories of my entire life have involved Japan in one way or another, through all periods of my life so far.

Fast-forward to the last few days: Every time I read news of the disasters in Japan I get really upset, of course, out of compassion for the horrible things that are happening to all of those people and the country.

But this special spot always gets hit in my heart, and it always brings up these somewhat faded memories of me as a child, inside japanese stores in Brazil, which I remember in great detail as if it was earlier today, where I'd gawk at all the toys on the shelves and talk to the elderly shop owners, hoping my mom and dad would buy me something.

Every news of these disasters I see, all that comes to my mind is me holding this action figure from one of my favorite shows, in this little toy shop that my parents used to take me to after school sometimes, when I was around eight years old. It's almost as if, I was transported back to that age, and looking into Kamen Rider or Jaspion's action figure face I somehow let them know of the catastrophes that were to eventually occur.

These heroes never fought against these types of enemies in their worlds.

In all of the DragonBall Z movies I grew up watching, most of the time what always ended up happening was that unable to defeat a greater evil, all of the heroes would then lift their hands together, and transfer all their powers to the main hero, Goku, who would then finally have the strength in him through the support of his friends to deliver the final blow and overcome the evil forces trying to destroy the earth and all of life.

This time I lift my hands and pray for the country and people responsible for so many wonderful memories of my life.

Project of the day - An Object. Chose to do it about my motorcycle. I thought it came out ok for once. Besides the audio, but what do you expect with an on-board mic...

Open road

Open road, originally uploaded by Himzka.

So I decided to start tackling on Vimeo projects to get some practices on concepts that I am highly unlikely to do of my own accord. It was a very nice day out, sunny and windy, perfect to ride the motorcycle to the park and shoot some photos. Bike stopped working on the way home however, which made it for a very tiring end of the day.

Pushing this bike home feels like trying to tow a panzer tank.

Anyways. This was the essence of today:

Starting strong

So.

2010 was a great year I think. I had a lot of good times, saw great transformations take place with things important to me, and with myself. Had supernatural experiences. This is only day six of this year, and I can already tell it's going to be a great one, even better than 2010. God has been giving me many experiences already to show me that he is listening, as he is always. Things are lining up so awesomely, I am so excited for what is going to take place this year.

As a result of this feeling and foresight I've experienced so far, I also have made some decisions. I will not deny myself of anything I want to do. I am flying to New York for the Blip Festival 2011 in the summer, I have always wanted to experience that. I am going to Brazil to see family and friends, go to the doctors and the dentist and get things done and checked off the list. I am going to be the most creative I have been in a long time, be with music, photography, or whatever else I may do. I'm gonna travel around more often to see my friends in far away places. I am also going to be more active, which means more bike rides on the singletracks of Florida, working out more regularly and getting in shape. It's simply going to be a year of conquests and achievements, and I'm ready for it.

Scott Pilgrim VS The World

I saw this movie last night, and holy crap, was it amazing. It's the movie that I've been wanting to watch since I was 10 years old. The entire movie has to do with playing music, videogames, and comic books. I don't know that any other movie will ever be able to combine all my dorkiest interests into one 2 hour conglomerate of videogame references and sound effects like Scott Pilgrim VS The World has done.
